This image is all about the loneliness of the ocean and how nature imposes it's stifling presence upon you when you're out at sea and realizing how small you are. Here, a very large ship has succumbed to the ravages of salt air and salt water and no one to care. I really enjoy painting skies like this because of the freedom of the brushwork. The water requires a little more attention in that it has to be right to a certain extent and it must reflect it's surroundings. The boat itself is always a challenge - a matter of putting in the time, paying attention to the initial drawing and mixing the colors correctly. Nothing like a little burnt sienna to make the metal rusty. Quiet and peaceful, this ship is waiting for it's final voyage.
