Lots-of-Lefty

It's hard not to come up with great things to say about the legendary fly fisherman Lefty Kreh. A friend to all who knew him along with everybody else in the world, Lefty will always be remembered as a gentleman and a man with a list of manly accomplishments that goes on forever.  This painting came about in bits and pieces - I had hundreds of invitations left over from my one man show at the IGFA Museum in Ft Lauderdale several years ago. They sat in a stack on a shelf in my studio for months before I thought of what to do with them. The image on the invitation was 9 paintings that I did of Lefty using the same photoshopped outline of his face but in different colors. I carefully cut each section of the faces out of the invitation and glued them on a piece of masonite. I then took the same image, blew it up and painted that over the top of all the smaller cut outs from the invitation. I added one of Lefty's most famous quotes around the image of his face. Feeling that I could do more, I repainted each little Lefty face in the background in different colors and configurations.

Lefty never got to see this painting before he died but I'm sure he would have said, "If you think I look like that, you must need glasses".
